Level Design - Alpha Stage

This gallery showcases the three main rooms that are currently still in development(Alpha Stage); the music room, art room and classroom.

Pre - Beta  Phase

After the alpha stage of the environment-development process, my team and I immediately started working on what we could have done better for our existing rooms.

In addition to improving our 3 main rooms, we spent our following term break to consult and create more assets for our other rooms.

During our term break, one of the rooms (with assets) that we created was the toilet room.

The toilet room was intended to function as a misclellaneous room that served no function.

However, the room was so well-received that my team and I decided to make this room a main room instead.

Especially for the toilet, we took heavy advantage of our abilities to craft normal, bump and specular maps to enhance the look and feel.

Addition of Toilet Room

Material Editor

During the pre-beta phase of the environment-development process, my team and I experimented with the material editor feature that is readily available in Unreal Engine 4. This material editor makes use of visual scripting and linkages to enhance and change the materialistic features of actors in the game.

Addition of stairs & Walkways

On top of creating the toilet room, my team and I also created a series of stairs so that the player will be able to navigate themselves through the different levels of our game environment.

We also made much use of normal, bump and specularity values to enhance and bring out the rustiness of the flights of stairs to simulate the old and rusty features of the worn out flights of stairs.

On top of creating a series of rusted stairs, my team and I also took the initiative to craft our own walkways, while also taking many features and props that currently exist in schools in real life such as lockers, water coolers and vending machines.

We tried to make our walkways feel as realistic and believable at the same time by preserving many aspects of real life school walkways and their props.

GAMEPLAY - BLUEPRINT SCRIPTING

Being completely new to the Unreal Game Engine and not having any prior knowledge to the C++ scripting language, our team used blueprint scripting to get the gameplay for After Lies.

This method of scripting C++ is much simpler and does not require much or even any prior knowledge to the scripting language. We were also able to achieve the functions and mechanics tat we wanted for the game using this method of scripting.
